Infrastructure Construction Projects: Travel the ‘PRT’ way

With increased emphasis on adopting “smart city” practices, it comes as no surprise that Dubai has begun to invest in projects to propel that agenda forward. Recently, the Dubai transport authority awarded huge contracts to link the mega tourist destination, Bluewaters Island, to the mainland. Worth almost 475 million dirhams the 4 lane bridge will span 1400 meters in length which will also include the construction of personal rapid transit systems and footbridges to transport visitors via cable car. The self-contained island features the ultimate in entertainment and high-end living making this a desirable destination for globe trotters.

Opportunity alert: Advancements in sustainable transportation and development of ‘smart city’ infrastructure has become an important consideration. As Expo 2020 draws closer, mega projects are being announced and companies that have a proven track record with similar projects will find ample opportunity to bring their expertise to the Dubai-scape as well.

Sustainable Construction: A futuristic HQ for Bee’ah

Bee’ah is a Sharjah-based waste management and sustainability company, that has taken firm strides towards fulfilling its mission of zero waste to landfills. Created by Zaha Hadid, its new headquarters design is inspired by sand dunes and the robust structure of this 7000 sq. m building can withstand extreme weather conditions. Sustainability wise, this proposal has accommodated numerous smart energy saving strategies which include interior courtyard spaces, adjustable openings, natural ventilation, flooding the interiors with ample daylight, installing PV panels, using waste heat to provide hot water and even recovering materials from the landfill to utilize in the construction of the building. The HQ will be partially powered by energy generated at the waste management facility, while the rest of the site holds the world’s largest gasification waste-to-energy facility, the 3rd largest material recovery plant, a compost plant for turning organic waste into fertiliser, recycling centres for C&D, electronic, paper, wood, organic, industrial, plastic and hazardous waste along with lagoons for processing liquid industrial waste and contaminated water.

Opportunity Alert: Maximizing current recycling capacity across the UAE is always on the agenda here. With new advancements in technology and global expertise coming on board thru various platforms, there is no doubt that the zero-waste-to-landfill mission will definitely see success. International companies that have developed smart practices, successful approaches and innovative environmental solutions will be easily absorbed into one of the Middle East’s fastest growing sectors.

Real Estate Launch: Self-Contained ‘Town Square’ Development

To be executed in 180 days by Nshama, this mega mixed use community project will feature over 3,000 townhouses, 18,000 apartments as well as 2.5 million square feet of retail, hospitality and commercial space not to mention premium leisure, entertainment and even medical facilities. Located in New Dubai near Al Barsha, Town Square’s residences have been strategically priced to appeal to middle income families with payment plans extending to 2018. The ‘Safi’ apartments were launched yesterday, however, to stay up-to-date potential buyers can register their interest on the developer’s official website.

Opportunity Alert: Community development investments have usually done well for buyers in the past and starting at around 350,000 dirhams the introductory price for this project seems to have appealed, hence out of the 3000 townhouse units, 1000 have already been sold.
