Hello guys, as you all know early December last year, there was lots of buzz about the “Champ Of The Camp” premier that was showcased in Dubai. It was the awesome documentary that was filmed here, which showcased the Dubai’s labourers, their lives, their stories and their amazing singing talent. Being, the first ever feature-length documentary filmed in the UAE’s labor camps, the film aims to humanize and celebrate the dignity of these labourers and also attempts to bring down the invisible barrier that has separated us for decades.
Today, after weeks of work, “Champ Of The Camp” will be released in theatres by the end of January. There is a huge crowdfunding campaign underway right now and dollars/dirhams are being raised to make sure it gets the attention it deserves. The money will be used specifically towards the production of theatrical exhibition materials, clearances and a full marketing campaign necessary to generate awareness of the film at theatres and make the release a success. Historically, all films released without a supporting marketing campaign will fail to attract sufficient attendance. In such cases, the theatres always cancel the release in favor of more commercial titles.
Keep a look out for the film and if possible, raise your voice in support of the initiative. A contribution is always welcomed but more than that your support is what will make this a success. The labourers finally deserve to have some recognition and a place in our heart and lives after the countless years of hardwork they put in to build our city.
Follow Up Segment: Here’s an opportunity for all of you to now get involved, people that have an interest in social initiatives and appreciate talent can join in on another screening which is organized for Friday, the 17th at 5pm.
